The Excel add-in/API

What is the Excel add-in?

The Bloomberg Excel add-in (API) allows you to pull data from Bloomberg through Excel rather than from the regular Bloomberg terminal interface.  This is very helpful for pulling large sets of data or comparing companies on a variety of factors.

How to use Bloomberg in Excel

Open Excel and follow these steps:

  1. Choose Bloomberg tab
  2. Choose Spreadsheet Builder
  3. Choose the right type of table
  4. Choose Next

Troubleshooting - missing Excel add-in

The Bloomberg Excel add-in works on all 7 Bloomberg terminals. It is installed as default. If the add-in is missing in the toolbar (see text above), try this:

  1. If there is an error installing it, run Start > All Programs > Bloomberg > Bloomberg API Diagnostics > Start & Repair.

  2. Still not working? Try manually installing the Bloomberg Excel add-in.
    • First, close all Excel spreadsheets and follow this path:
    • Start > All Programs > Bloomberg > Install Excel Add-In.

You can access Bloomberg data via the Bloomberg API. You may access and use this data ONLY on the PC you use to access the BLOOMBERG PROFESSIONAl service and to download the data.You may not remove data downloaded using the Bloomberg API from this PC. You and your company’s use of the BLOOMBERG PROFESSIONAL service, the Bloomberg API and Bloomberg data is subject to the Bloomberg Agreement and Datafeed Addendum signed by your company.
