Good empirical research requires good data – and good research data should be carefully managed, in order to be accessible and usable in the future. A data management plan (DMP) helps you plan how to organise, document, back up, and securely store your data in a structured way.
DMPs are actually required by more and more research funders as obligatory project deliverables, and they are useful for all research projects, large or small. So, consider including a DMP to detail the lifecycle of your research data, when devising the strategy for your next research project.
DMPonline is a web tool that assists researchers in producing effective data management plans. It was originally developed by the UK-based Digital Curation Centre in close collaboration with research funders and universities. A Danish version has been available since 2015 and continues to be developed and improved.
You sign into DMPonline with your CBS credentials.
After signing in you can begin creating your DMP. Initially, you are asked three questions to determine which template to display. NB: You should also select to include the guidance texts – they will help you answer the template questions.

DMPonline allows you to edit collaboratively the project DMP. You can share the DMP with your collaborators, assign different access rights, and work on it as a team.
Once the DMP is finalised, you can export it in different formats (csv, html, xml, docx, pdf etc.) and include it with the rest of the research project documentation.
For any questions regarding DMPonline please contact the CBS Research Data Management Support.
