This step can be visualised with the Enterprise Value (EV) function. It shows the total value of the firm.
In facebook’s case, enterprise value belongs only to shareholders. In case there would be bond holders, then that value should be subtracted from the EV. Cash & Equivalent show how much cash Facebook has.
