Free auto-transcription is right in front of you! You no longer need a subscription for a specific service because as CBS faculty you have access to Microsoft 365 for enterprise.
Many CBS researchers spend a lot of time and energy transcribing interviews, talks, videos etc. With Word Transcribe, this task has just become a whole lot easier.
Get started
- If you have not done so already, please download Office 365
- Open MS Word
- Click New file
- Click Dictate Menu in the Home tab and select Transcribe.
- Upload your file and select language
Good to know
Word Transcribe allows you to transcribe audio and video files as well as live meetings. The software converts speech to text with each speaker separated. You can revisit recordings to make corrections. Whether you record on your phone or via a calling or conference system app, you can easily select and upload a file.
Transcribe supports the following formats: .mp3, .wav, .m4a, & .mp4
Other CBS options
- KONCH – an auto-transcription service from DEIC.
- NVivo – a qualitative data analysis software that allows for manual transcription. NB. CBS does not provide access to auto-transcription via NVivo.
