About WRDS

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is a web-based business data research service from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Developed in 1993 to support faculty research at Wharton, the service has evolved to become a common tool for research for more than 260 institutions around the world.

WRDS provides researchers worldwide with instant access to financial, economic, marketing, banking, ESG, insurance and statistical data through a uniform, web-based interface. Among the financial and economic data sources are: Compustat, CRSP, OptionMetrics and TAQ.

Some of the highlights:

  • historical financial data from CRSP and Compustat
  • security prices and trading volume
  • balance sheet, income statements and other company-based financial items
  • stock market indices, bond prices and U.S. Treasury interest rates
  • mutual fund and stock ownership information as well as options data
  • intraday stock price bid and ask quotes
